The Lansbury Estate Mosque has become the first Mosque in Tower Hamlets to become dementia friendly.
Friday is the most important day of the week for Muslims worldwide, and it is the day when the Jumuah prayers are observed in the congregation. This week a packed Mosque listened to a presentation from Emdad Rahman, who is a trained dementia Friends Champion.
Mohammad Faiz Uddin, Chairman of Lansbury Mosque, said: “We are proud to be the first Mosque in Tower Hamlets to become dementia friendly. Because of the Easter break we had a mixture of young and old participants today, and the information session was very beneficial. I hope more organisations in our borough will sign up to this great initiative.”
Dementia Friends Information Sessions are run by volunteer Dementia Friends Champions, who are trained and supported by the Alzheimer’s Society. Each Information Session lasts around one hour. Participants learn more about dementia and how they can help to create dementia friendly communities.
