Leftley Sports Club form Working Committee

The Barking & Dagenham based Leftley Sports Club has formed a working committee to move the organisation forward and help achieve its aims of engaging local people through sports. 

The charity will be managed by the Executive Committee of Trustees who were appointed at a General Meeting this week. The elected Executive Committee for 2018-2020 are: Muhammed Ali: Chairperson Mohammed Zoinul Abidin: Vice Chair Anwar Hussain: General Secretary Forhad Altafi: Treasurer Abul Kalam: Member Joynal Hussain: Member Samim Ahmed: Member Mohammed Gulam Hassan: Member Burhan Uddin: Member

Newly appointed Chair Muhammed Ali commented,, “Leftley Sports Club came about as a result of us wishing to engage local people through sports. At the moment we have a number of weekend activities for adults and young people and we encourage participation from absolutely everyone. Our activities are enjoyable and whether you are a seasoned athlete or a beginner everyone is welcome. We promise a whole lot of fun.”

Yousuf Khan, Chair of the Hedgecock Community Centre, added, “I would like to congratulate the newly elected LSC Executive Committee and I’m confident that the team will work closely with all residents to promote healthier lifestyle choices in the community through a range of exciting and diverse sporting activities.”

Leftley Sports Club started after a few local residents decided to set up a running club for the residents of the Leftley Estate and beyond. Running sessions take place on Saturday mornings at 10.30 am and the meeting point is by the Clare Gardens gate to Mayesbrook Park. Each session lasts for approximately 60 minutes and participants run around the perimeter of Mayesbrook Park. There is no minimum standard or level of experience.

All running, cycling, football sessions are free and provide a platform for residents to get to know one another whilst working together on their health and wellbeing.
