A compendium of star faces took part in a special meet and greet with football fans as Nick Tanner’s Liverpool Legends Euro Winners Tour was held at the Liverpool Hilton. The event included a meet and greet with the legends, autographs, photos and show, which was followed by post event entertainment by Marc Kenny.
Former Liverpool defender Nick Tanner and Abu Nasir of Global Sporting Ventures UK (GSVUK) organised the event. Guests included an array of European Cup winning legends, including Ian Callaghan MBE, Jimmy Case, Howard Gayle, Phil Neal, Terry McDermott, Alan Kennedy, Ronnie Moran and the Voice of Anfield George Sephton who said: “I’m kick-starting what promises to be a great evening of fun and laughs all round.”
There were also appearances from top football impersonator Darren Farley and music from Marc Kenny (www.marckenny.co.uk) who got the crowd into gear with his rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.
Phil Neal is the most decorated player in the history of Liverpool Football Club. He said: “I never get tired of meeting our fans. They are quite unique in their own special way. Some of us ex-players have not seen each other for years, so this has been a great evening all round.”
European Cup winner Howard Gayle also broke down barriers as Liverpool’s first ever black player. The original Toxteth Terror is reassured by the way the current team is progressing: “It’s been an exciting end to the season. At Anfield the priority will always be lifting the League, but wouldn’t it be great to see Jurgen Klopp trading tactics at Anfield with Europe’s finest coaches in the Champions League next season? At the moment the Europa route looks promising. The fans will get behind the team and then anything is possible.”
Nick Tanner said: “It’s been a night of great fun. Thanks to the fans who attended. They are the main reason why our events are such a success. It’s simple, without such support we wouldn’t have such a great event. I look forward to welcoming another full house in Luton next month.”
Abu Nasir from GSV Sports Management, who teamed up with Nick Tanner to deliver the show, added: “For me it’s important that current and former footballers remain engaged with the fans. Sometimes in the modern game this is not always the case. However as you can see from tonight’s event we have here Liverpool supporters from all walks of life attending in huge numbers to meet their heroes, reminiscing the great times and celebrating our history and success by bringing together the players and supporters that made it all happen.”
•The next Euro Cup winners show takes place at the Crescent Hall in Luton on 27th May and is again sponsored by Meah’s Curry Sauces. Director Khaled Ahmed said: “It’s been a pleasure supporting this memorable evening and I will be offering my backing for the foreseeable future. I am a lifelong Red so this really is an ideal partnership.”
•The Luton show is backed by Liverpool great Steven Gerrard and will also be supporting Keech Hospice Care. (www.keech.org.uk)
