Newham’s London APSA FC came down with a bump on Saturday after a heavy home defeat against third place Southend Manor. APSA had enjoyed a wonderful month of  March with four wins in five league games which had seen the team rocket up to 9th in the league.

“Three matches in seven days took their toll on our boys” said manager John Higley. “They (Southend Manor) cashed in on every ball and we lacked the fitness to compete with them today” Surprising APSA left out man of the moment Yasin Patel, who had scored three goals in their last two games, including two, in the 2-1 away win against  league leaders Enfield 1893 on Wednesday night. Patel was allowed to play for the reserves on Saturday, who were involved in a cup semi-final; at the expense of the first  team.

APSA had goalkeeper Steve Brown to thank for not suffering a heavier defeat, as the young keeper made a string of saves.

Higley now has seven days to re-group his troops  before their next match against local rivals Bethnal Green United FC at the Mile End Stadium on Saturday.
