NO CHILD should go hungry! That was the aim of the Island Network as they carried out a mega delivery of food parcels to primary schools on the Isle of Dogs, E14, last weekend.
Not only was there a delivery of boxes to elderly residents over the weekend – the Network made doubly sure that the Island’s younger residents did not lose out. On Monday, 1st March 45 food boxes were delivered to each primary school on the Island, so that teachers could make sure that families in need had that little bit of help.
The boxes contained nutritional staples (rice, pasta, spaghetti, sardies, tuna, eggs, oats, cooking oil, chickpeas, noodles, long life milk) and toilet rolls. Supplies for the mega delivery were provided by the Spot project, which has been helping people across London during the lockdown.
Island Network Chair Maium Miah Talukdar said, “I was so pleased that we could deliver to schools after the weekend delivery to residents. Schools know which children come from families which are struggling. Not only does a box of supplies help feed the children, it also eases the worry for the family for that week over how they are going to make ends meet. I only wish we could do more.”
The schools which received parcels are: Cubitt Town, Harbinger, St Edmund’s, St Luke’s and Seven Mills. Here are the happy recipients!
