A MAN HAS BEEN charged in connection with the murder investigation in Dagenham which began after Gitana Matukeviciene, 50, died in suspicious circumstances. It is being conducted by local officers from the East Area Command Unit and the Metropolitan Police Homicide and Major Crime Command.
Ms Matukeviciene, who was originally from Lithuania, was found by the London Ambulance Service at a residential address in Rutland Gardens in Dagenham in the early afternoon on Saturday, 9th June. She had sustained a number of injuries and ambulance staff alerted the police.
Ms Matukeviciene was taken by ambulance to Queen Hospital in Romford, but she died on the following Tuesday without regaining consciousness. Her next of kin were informed.
The police arrested a 52 year old man at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. He was named as Dmitrij Platov, 52, from Dagenham.
Platov was initially remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on 13th June. When he attended the Court he was again remanded in custody, to return to the Old Bailey on 9th July.
The police are not seeking anyone else in connection with this incident.
