Oxfam’s seventh annual “Oxjam” music festival takes place throughout next month – with warm-up gigs taking place in the last days of September.
The main events in October will be run by volunteers: over 6,000 of them, working in over 800 venues, co-ordinating 6,000 musicians in gigs which will be enjoyed by 180,000 revellers, all raising money for Oxfam. The charity hopes that the fundraising events will bring in at least £400,000 which will go towards its work to overcome poverty and suffering around the world.
The warm-up gigs are taking place in East London: in a Shoreditch loft. Bizarrely, Oxfam has chosen a venue which has only limited accessibility. It is extremely surprising to see a charity which does so much good work operating apartheid events.
