AT THE PACKED weekly Friday Jumuah prayers, Poplar Shahjalal Mosque hosted an information session to help raise awareness of Dementia. The Dementia Friends programme, led by Emdad Rahman, was attended by over 300 people and accompanied the Imam’s Friday prayers sermon.

Mosque Chair Faruk Ahmed was pleased with the participation of attendees and commented, “Dementia is now Britain’s biggest killer and destroys the lives of our community members. This does not have to be the case and with understanding and awareness we can all play a part in supporting those who need our care.”

Dementia Friends Information Sessions are run by volunteer Dementia Friends Champions like Emdad, who are trained and supported by the Alzheimer’s Society. Each Information Session creates awareness about dementia and how everyone can help to create dementia friendly communities. There are information sessions running across England and Wales.
