HE HAS BEEN found guilty of a list of serious sexual crimes against a child, but police are now wondering whether he had committed any previous crimes. They are calling on any other victims to contact them.
At Wood Green Crown Court, on 6th December, Mustafa Mehmet was convicted of raping a child, causing a child to engage in sexual activity, causing a child to watch a sexual act and causing Actual Bodily Harm. He has been remanded in custody and will return to the same court on 31st January for sentencing.
It seems that Mehment exploited his relationship with the child’s mother to facilitate his crimes, including raping the child repeatedly. The crimes took place over three years in the first decade of the century, beginning when the child was eight years old.
The victim first spoke to police in 2019. Police supported her as they investigated the allegations. Mehmet was charged in January 2024 and police continued to support the victim as they waited for the trial and during the trial itself – while also commending her for her bravery.
But is this horrendous case the only crime Mehmet committed? “Mehmet is a dangerous and predatory sexual offender,” said Detective Constable Megan Davidson. “He exploited an innocent relationship with a young family to abuse their children. The Metropolitan Police tirelessly pursues those who commit violance against women and girls.”
DC Davidson went on to make a plea to any other victims who may not yet have come forward. “I remain concerned that Mehment may have committed other offences that have yet to be reported to us,” she said. “If you recognise this man as having had any relationship with your family and believe that you or a family member may have been a victim of his abuse, please contact us immediately. Speciallly trained officers will be there to isten to you and provide you with any support you may require.”
