Imrul Gazi’s Under 14s are top dogs again

FC Osmani are Tower Hamlets Youth League champions as Imrul Gazi’s youngsters wrapped up a second consecutive championship against opponents Shadwell FC.

Vallance were favourites after lighting up the under 13s league last year, and the under 14’s were devastating again this season.

Gazi opted to mix up the squad for this campaign, and a large number of the fringe players were handed first team places. Such is the strength in depth within the squad that the champions retained their crown at a canter, scoring 70 goals on the way while conceding a miserly 10.

In that regard Gazi was full of praise for his centre backs: “I felt a change and selected two new central defenders for this year. Our game ethos is consistent and both Musta Chowdhury and Ihsan Islam were airtight throughout the season.” Ihsan was named as the manager’s player of the year.

FC Osmani secured the league last year with two games to play, and this year the youngsters maintained a 100% record. There is a reason why this team is sweeping to success. Gazi, who has now won four league titles in a row, initially laid the foundations in the 2010 season when the current squad were under 9s. The core have stuck together, and FC Osmani have reaped the rewards. “We are easy on the eye with a fluency on the pitch that has come from years of hard work,” added Gazi.

“The originals are still in the team and going strong. Hamza Abdullah, Raul Gazi, Wayez Ali, Fahim Islam, Adil Haque, Umar Abdullah and Zaydan Miah were amazing throughout. I have tried to add one or two every year to freshen things up and am very proud of this team. We are now recognised as one of the best teams not just in Tower Hamlets but in East London. I have big hopes for these boys.”
