Salmonella found in berry medley

A TESCO fruit medley has been contaminated with salmonella, and the supermarket is recalling the product.

Salmonella causes serious food poisoning. It causes symptoms such as a high temperature, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps. It is also highly contagious. If you have these symptoms you should stay away from work. This is particularly important if you would with children, in education or childcare settings; schools or health settings, or if you work in care for the elderly. It is also important that you stay away from work if you are employed in the food industry.

Tesco is putting up recall notices in its stores. It advises anyone who has bought the berry medley not to eat it. You should return it to a Tesco stores, where you will receive a full refund.

It is always advisable to wash berries and other fruits sold in plastic containers, as well as loose vegetables and salads – single items or prepared salad boxes.
