Scintilla Cricket Club has delivered a successful summer camp. The Barking & Dagenham based club held a week long cricket training camp at Eastbury Comprehensive School. Youngsters from Barking & Dagenham were taught the basics of cricket by Scintilla coaches Anindita Ani and senior team captain Ayaz Karim.
“It’s been really fun here,” said Toby Ahmed. “The best part was playing the games at the end of training,” said the Chafford school pupil. “Our coaches were really nice and we learnt lots from them. I hope there will be more summer camps in the holidays.”
Sulayman Ahmed, 11, is a new year 7 pupil at Barking Abbey School. He said: “I’m very competitive. I love cricket and have made some good friends here.”
Raja Goswami of Sidney Russell School added: “It’s been excellent all the way. We’ve had so much fun and I will join up again if this ever happens again.”
Club captain and player manager Ahmed Choudhury was pleased with the outcomes achieved. He said: “We are a local team but our members have big hearts. I’d like to say thank you to my colleagues for their amazing efforts. We extend our thanks to Eastbury School and Barking & Dagenham Council for helping us to help keep these youngsters off the streets and enjoying great cricket.”
Scintilla Cricket Club is the reigning Essex County Cricket Premier Division Champion. The club is committed to promoting healthy lifestyles through cricket, health advice and physical activities for both young and old. Weekly training sessions take place but a training venue is required to train local youngsters from September.
