Despite a rain-washed pitch, Scintilla CC eased through to the second round of the National Cricket League Cup after a blistering batting performance from Ashraful Islam sealed a ten run victory.

With heavy downpours at intervals, the 20 over game was reduced to 15 overs to ensure a definite result. The decision also avoided one team being knocked out courtesy of a toss of a coin.

Scintilla won the toss and batted first. Ashraful Islam was top scorer with 79, while Rishad Haque added 15 after replacing Ashfaqur Rahman (35).

After a very short tea break, Kothi CC fell agonisingly short as the NCL side reached 152/6 from 15 overs. Vice captain Sajal Rahman struck two wickets, while Zisan Abedin, Rishad Haque, Ashish Morankar took one wicket each.

Jubilant man of the match Ashraful Islam said, “It was not the greatest day to play but I’m happy to have played my part in a great win for us.”

Captain Ayaz Karim added, “Ashraful, Nobel and Rishad held things together with the bat. The bowlers did what they had to do. It was a good team effort and we take away many plus points.”
