TWO MEN now face charges of arson with intent to endanger life after a small fire outside a building in Nelson Street, Whitechapel, E1 on 5th May.
The building used to be a synagogue and is in the process of being sold to a Somali Muslim organisation. The police investigation is being led by Counter Terrorism police.
Two people were arrested on 10th May. One, Moses Edwards, was charged with arson. The second person arrested is a woman whose name has not been revealed. She was initially released on bail and must report back to police on a date in August.
A 31 year old man was arrested on 12th May and was held in custody. He has now been named as Dominic Charles-Turner of Leyton. He is the second man to be charged with arson with intent to endanger life.
Commander Helen Flanagan, head of the Counter-Terrorism team, warned the public that the threat level (the threat of a terrorist incident occurring in the UK) has recently been raised to severe. She assured the public that police are working hard to arrest everyone involved in the Nelson Street fire and asked members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to the police.
The police have not yet revealed the motive behind the arson.
