Sheikha Selina Begum Ali receives British Muslim Award 2018

SHEIKHA SELINA BEGUM ALI of Whitechapel, the Principal Teacher of the London-based Beacon Institute, has been named The Religious Advocate of the Year at the British Muslim Awards 2018.

The British Muslim Awards is an annual award ceremony that honours the success and achievements of Britain’s Muslim individuals, groups and businesses. It was established in 2013.

Speaking after receiving her award Sheikha Selina commented, “There were so many notable nominees and I am truly honoured and blessed with this recognition. I pray this will inspire others in a positive sense.”

Sheikha Selina graduated with a Bachelors degree (BEd) in Primary Education, CELTA and PTLLS from London. She also completed a Diploma in Arabic Language and a Bachelors degree (BA) in Usul-Ad-Din and Usul-al Fiqh in Arabic medium from the European Institute of Islamic Sciences in France.

She is a senior teacher of the Rashid Course, a two year part-time diploma course in Islamic Studies and Quranic Recitation and the Imam Degree Programme, a four year part-time Alimiyah Degree Course on Quran studies, Arabic Language and Islamic sciences run by Beacon Institute of which, she is a Co- Founding Director.

She is also the head of Oak Education, a supplementary Islamic school for children and the Chair of Gift of Knowledge. She is married and has five children.

A spokesperson for Al Rayan Bank said: “We congratulate all of the winners of this year’s British Muslim Awards, they fully deserve the recognition that they have received. We also congratulate the nominees for the positive effect that they have had on their communities over the last 12 months.”

The evening showcased and celebrated the finalists’ sheer determination and hard work alongside the personal and commercial achievements of individuals and organisations whose work often goes unrecognised.

The awards are run by Oceanic Consulting, and CEO Irfan Younis said, “For a community that is often victim to misrepresentation, it is great to see the work that the finalists have been doing in various different sectors across the country showcased in a positive light and we hope to keep showcasing such committed and talented nominees in years to come.”

The evening also helped to raise funds for the National Zakat Foundation, a charity with a vision for an entirely “faithful, confident, selfless and self-sufficient Muslim community in the United Kingdom.”
