RAPIST DESCRIBED by police as a “predatory individual” has been sentenced to twelve years in jail after being convicted of four counts of rape, one charge of false imprisonment, one charge of threats to kill and a further charge of sexual assault.
Ahad Ali, of Sidney Street, E1, was convicted and sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court last week. He is just 21 years of age, but his path to criminality began when he went online and booked an escort from an agency. The escort, a 40 year old woman, duly arrived at his flat at 9pm on 13th February – but once she arrived, Ali imprisoned her in his bedroom.
Ali raped the woman, threatening her with a knife. Fortunately he did not take her phone away, and when he left the bedroom for a short while she was able to call a taxi driver and then screamed for help. Ali returned and realised what she was doing, but luckily the taxi driver realised something was wrong and called the police, telling them what address the woman was at.
The police rushed round to the address and forced entry. Trying to escape arrest, Ali jumped out of the window – from the seventh floor flat. Ali fractured his arm and leg in the fall and had to spend ten days in hospital. When he was ready to be discharged he was arrested and charged.
Ali continued to deny the charges, claiming that the victim was making her allegations up. The police case, brought after an investigation by the Metropolitan Police Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command (CASO), was backed up by testimony from the woman victim and the taxi driver and from mobile phone records. He was convicted by the jury.
Detective Constable Stav Georgiou-Moran, the CASO officer who led the investigation, said, “Ahad Ali is a predatory individual who targeted a vulnerable female. This was a premeditated, violent attack that involved the use of a large knife to threaten the victim. I would like to praise the courage and bravery of the victim in giving evidence against the defendant. Anyone who has been the victim of sexual violence is advised to tell someone they trust or inform the police.”
