THE ISRAELI state has today banned the UN’s Palestine Refugee Agency, UNRWA, from operating inside the Israeli state or in any areas which the Israeli state occupies an controls.
The ban seems to be designed to stop the UN delivering supplies such as water, food and medicine to Palestinians who remain in Gaza. The Israeli state claims that the ban has been introduced because some UNRWA members were involved in Hamas’s attack on Israel on 7 October – a rather belated and disproportionate response to a hardly credible allegation.
The move comes shortly after UK PM Keir Starmer put on a very stern voice and announced that the Israeli state should deliver “aid” to Gaza “now”. While he was issuing this advice, the UK continued to send components for the F-35 combat aircraft to the Israeli state – via the USA, to avoid Foreign Secretary David Lammy’s decision to suspend arms sales to Israel direct.
The BBC is reporting that the US, the UK and Germany have responded by expressing “serious concern”. “Serious concern” may or may not be how Palestinian hostages in Gaza see it.
