Sporting Green have signed off the 2016/17 season with the Tower Hamlets Youth League Cup 2017. The Wapping outfit have now won the THYL league and cup double for both the winter and summer leagues.

The double double winners were phenomenal throughout the season, sweeping opposing teams away with a combination of pure energy and advanced trickery.

Manager Elas Ali commented, “It’s a testament to their teamwork that they have achieved so much this year. No one player was bigger than the team. No one player pulled it out of the bag for us – they all did, time and time again.”

After a quick summer break, Sporting Green will begin preparations for the Hackney League next season.

Newark U10s were in fine form to win the THYL summer youth tournament – the fifth trophy of the season for Abul Bashar’s young charges. Hussain’s U8s also won the same tournament in their category for their seventh piece of silverware during an outstanding season.

Newark U12s were the unlucky runners up again in the THYL, for the fifth time. Manager Abul Hussain said, “It’s been raining silverware for these boys and their hard work has paid off. I feel for the under 12s, but they will come back stronger.”
