The annual Quicksticks Hockey festival was held in Whitechapel at the end of February. Two hundred and fifty pupils descended into the area, all eager to take home the trophy. This year had the biggest number of participants to date – a staggering 41 teams from across the Borough.

With strong competition across the six pools, it was always going to be a hard battle to reach the Quarter finals. Both Marner A and B teams, along with St Saviours A and B, Hague and Sir William Burrough (SWB) topped their groups, and both the Quarter and Semi Finals showcased impressive hockey from all teams.

St Saviours saw off their opponents in the Semi Final. Marner school narrowly missed out on the final place in the final. Sir William Burrough went a goal down early on which did not deter their spirits, but they went on to make every tackle count and push through St Saviours’ defence – and were rewarded with two consecutive goals.

The game went end to end, showcasing some impressive hockey, but St Saviours brought it back with an equaliser. Players started getting tired after a long day of hockey, but there was room for one more goal which came from St Saviours in the final minutes of the game. St Saviours retained their title for another year. Well done to all teams who competed!
