Subway’s the way to help hearts

On Sunday 370 runners put on their trainers and came down to Victoria Park for the first Subway  Helping Hearts Family 5K event  in the capital. Local professional boxer Aarron “The Marksmen” Morgan was on hand to start the  race and ensure everyone was running, walking or pushing their way to the finish line in knockout time. By taking part, everyone helped to raise money for national heart charity Heart Research UK. All the sponsorship money went towards supporting the Heart Research UK and Subway Healthy Heart Grant scheme – a scheme that was launched to provide financial support to local community groups across the UK to encourage them to lead healthy lifestyles and to, ultimately, look after their hearts.

After the fun run, runners were greeted by their family and friends and enjoyed a fun day out with a variety of free entertainment including a bouncy castle and face painting as well as a delicious Subway To Go! lunch. Thanks to Charlton Athletic Football Club, there was also an inflatable football pitch to help every get into the World Cup spirit.

The Subway Helping Hearts Family 5K series launched earlier this year in Cambridge. Last weekend’s event was the fourth of 12 that will take place up and down the country from May to September. Open to all ages and abilities, the events are part of Subway brand’s efforts to inspire families to live healthier and more active lifestyles.
