ON 14TH APRIL, Yusuf Mahmood conducted a small request, giving others the opportunity to have Umrah Badal performed on behalf of an ill or deceased person.

Umrah Badal is when someone gets an Umrah (the Islamic mini-pilgrimage) performed on his or her behalf by another person. The opportunity, hosted in the form of a positive competition, gave people across the world the chance to have Umrah completed for a loved one.

The winner, Zain Luqman Miah from London, replied that he wished this Umrah to be performed on behalf of Jamanoor Islam. Yusuf Mahmood, who runs Virtual Haramain, completed this Umrah on 17th April – as requested, on behalf of Jamanoor Islam.

The 20-year-old was knifed to death near his home in London. Speaking on Sunday, Syed Abdul Mukit, the father of Mr Islam, said: “We lost our first son in his mother’s arms and no family ever wants to lose a child in that manner.”

Suspects aged 15, 17 and 18, were arrested in the early hours of Sunday in South Yorkshire and are being held at a south London police station. Another 18-year-old was arrested and bailed last Wednesday.

Police were called on 11th April to Wager Street, Mile End, following reports of a stabbing. Syed, an aspiring artist and business student, was pronounced dead shortly after being taken to hospital. Detectives believe he was involved in an altercation after being approached by a group of males while standing with his friends, but the motive of the stabbing has not yet been established.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to contact the incident room on 020-8721 4868.  Alternatively, you can speak anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800-555 111.
