WHAT KIND OF footballer impresses you most? Do you admire the midfielder: a steady player involved in directing the ball away from her own goal and up to the strikers? Or maybe you like to watch the forwards as they make that determined assault on the goal. Or perhaps you’re a fan of the defenders, solidly looking after their own goal and sending the other side packing.

That’s the range of personal preferences you are going to have to decide on to take part in the BBC’s third annual Woman Footballer of the Year competition. Five woman footballers have been shortlisted:

Melanie Behringer (Bayern Munich and former Germany midfielder)

Ada Hegerberg (Olympique Lyonnais and Norway striker)

Hedvig Lindahl (Chelsea and Sweden goalkeeper)

Marta (Orlando Pride and Brazil forward)

Christine Sinclair (Portland Thorns and Canada forward)

All you have to do is go to the competition page on the BBC website, read up about the shortlisted footballers – and cast your vote! Voting is open until 9am on 15th May and the results will be announced on 30th May by the BBC World Service. Ready, steady – go!
