MYSTERY surrounds a collision involving a single motor vehicle in Rainham last October – which was followed by police finding the body of a man.
There are two facts that police know. •A collision happened at about 8.30pm on Thursday, 2nd October at the A1306 junction with Launders Lane. A blue 2008 Peugeot 207 was the only vehicle involved. Police searched the area, using specialist dogs and a helicopter to help. No one was found – in the vehicle or surrounding area. The police removed the vehicle. •On Friday, 16th October, Essex police contacted the Metropolitan Police about a missing person. On Saturday, 18th October, the Metropolitan Police searched the area again and found the body of a man in Launders Lane. The man named the dead man as Garry Peterson, aged 47, from Canvey Island. They believe he had been involved in the collision.
What the police do not know is what actually happened to cause the collision and Mr Peterson’s death. They have now issued an appeal for witnesses. Detective Constable Fayyadh Alwi from the Metropolitan Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Chadwell Health urged anyone who saw the collision to come forward and help solve the mystery.
