Despite it being a rainy Sunday in London, a team of local runners who are taking part in the Marrakech Half Marathon to raise money for vulnerable street children braved the elements to deliver a very successful car wash.

The charity event took place at Xcelsus MOT Centre in Canning Town, east London, with a team of five volunteers – Sam Islam, Ashraful Islam, Shakil Miah, Abdal Ahmed and Emdad Rahman.

The washing facilities were provided free of charge by generous local businessmen Sam Islam and Muhammad Sher Ali.

Abdal Ahmed, who is running the Marrakech Half Marathon in a fortnight with fellow volunteers Shakil Miah and Emdad Rahman, said, “Its been a rainy day and I suppose a lot of people stayed in, but for us it’s never been about the funds only, because the support we received throughout the day in terms of people bringing in cars and the encouragement on social media was immense.”

Sam Islam from Xcelsus added, “We are honoured to have been of service today. This is a community effort and I’m proud of everyone who volunteered and supported us throughout the day.”

In total the team raised over £400, which will all go towards supporting Muslim Charity in its work with vulnerable street children.
