A MAN WALKING his dog on Wanstead Flats has been brutally assaulted by three men – and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward in the hope of being able to identify the suspects.
The incident occurred on Saturday, 1st July, at approximately 5pm. The victim, a man in his 50s, was walking his dog near Jubilee Pond by Danes Road, E7. His dog was attacked by another dog – a black Staffordshire Bull Terrier which had grey hair around its muzzle.
As the victim separated the dogs, the owner of the Staffie arrived, with two friends – and an argument began. The three men attacked the dog walker, punching and kicking him to the floor, before walking off. The victim followed after them – shouting at them that he would call the police. At that point, one of the three men then turned back, showed the victim a gun and threatened to kill him if he called the police.
The three walked off and the victim went to hospital and received treatment for his injuries.
The suspects are described as follows. •Suspect 1 was in his 30s, wearing a white T-shirt with grey sleeves, jeans and white trainers. •Suspect 2 was in his 20s, wearing a dark grey tracksuit top and bottoms, white trainers and carrying a side bag. He also had head phones on. •Suspect 3 was aged around 20, wearing a black long sleeved top with a white logo on the left breast, dark bottoms and white trainers.
Detective Constable Sam Carey, who is leading the investigation for the East Area Command Unit, said, “This was a shocking attack carried out in broad daylight in an area that is frequently used by dog walkers, cyclists and families. I would ask anyone who was in the Flats around Jubilee Pond at the time of the assault and saw anything to contact police.”
