F OUR residents of Tower Hamlets have been diagnosed as having the Corona virus, also known as Covid-19. At the start of the week, only one case had been reported: the 300% increase was revealed today, Tuesday, 10th March.
One infected person is thought to be receiving treatment in the Royal London Hospital (pictured).
However, the authorities are still urging members of the public not to panic. The four cases in Tower Hamlets are a small proportion of the borough’s 300,000 residents – and a small proportion of the 373 cases identified in the UK todate. Six people have died from the virus in the UK, but it is thought that all had pre-existing health conditions which made them particularly vulnerable to the virus.
The Government continues to advise the public to concentrate on frequent and thorough hand washing to avoid infection – as well as coughing or sneezing into a tissue (which should then be put in the bin) and cleaning surfaces in the home and at work.
Tower Hamlets Council, which is responsible for public health in the borough, has repeated the government advice, without adding any additional information for local residents.
