HACKNEY STREETS are a tiny bit safer as this summer’s “Operation Sceptre” has seen police seize knives and drugs. The hauls come from a number of pro-active initiatives, including weapons sweeps – and led to a number of arrests.
Among the lethal weapons found were large combat knives (including the one pictured above) which are sometimes referred to as “Rambo style knives”. There were also samurai swords (including one pictured to the right) and flick knives. As well as drugs, quantities of cash – assumed to be the proceeds of crime – were also impounded
One 21 year old man, charged with possession with intent to supply Class B drugs and being in possession of criminal property, is being held in custody, due to appear at Wood Green Crown Court on 21st September. A 20 year old man, charged with possession of an offensive weapon, is also being held in custody and is due to appear at the same court on 26th September.
Detective Inspector Paul Ridley, who is leading Hackney’s Operation Sceptre work, said, “We have been, and will continue, to work relentlessly, day and night, to target people who we believe pose a danger to the public and are involved in criminality. We have seized many potentially lethal weapons and drugs. We are determined to disrupt violent individuals and clearly demonstrate that this behaviour will not be tolerated on the streets of the Capital.”
