A MAN WAS battered to death in Ilford last night in what appears to be an attack by a group of men carrying baseball bats. The incident occurred in the High Road, Ilford.
It was just after 2.45am when the emergency services received reports that there was an injured male in the High Road. The ambulance service attended and took him to an East London Hospital, but he died shortly after arrival, at 4.35am. Attempts are now being made to identify him so that his next of kin can be traced and informed. A post mortem will be held shortly.
Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command have launched an investigation and are working with local police. This morning roads were closed to protect the crime scene – with buses having to be re-routed. There are no early indications of what the motive for the attack may have been.
The police have appealed to the public for help. Anyone who was in or near Ilford High Road in the early hours of Sunday, 12th November is asked to contact the Homicide and Major Crime Command via 101.
