Witnesses sought as Redbridge collision kills motorcyclist

A YOUNG MAN lost his life in a collision between a car and a motorcycle in Redbridge on 17th December. Police are investigation the circumstances of the accident and have now appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

The collision took place at around 9.15pm on Friday, 17th December 2021 in Hainault Road, Redbridge. Police and the London Ambulance Service attended, and sadly the motorcyclist died at the scene. He has since been named as Saleem Ahmed, aged 20.

The car involved in the collision was an Audi TT. Its driver left the scene of the accident on foot.  Police from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are carrying out the investigation and to date one arrest has been made in connection with the incident. However, both the police and the victim’s family have appealed for any witnesses to come forward to help establish what happened.

The victim’s mother, Nadia, said, “It is extremely hard to put into words the effect of losing Saleem has had on our family. We are struggling to process his death, especially in these circumstances. I would ask anyone who has information about the incident personally, please speak to the police. Please do the right thing, for Saleem and our family.”

Detective Sergeant Eddie Coleman, who is leading the investigation, said, “This is an incredibly tragic incident that has left a family devastated. The driver made off from the scene. If anyone has any information in relation to this fatal collision, please come forward and speak to police. I am also asking anyone who was in the area of the A12 junction with Hainault Road at around 9.20pm on Friday, 17 December 2021 with Dash Cam footage, to come forward.

“Finally, I continue to appeal directly to any witnesses or anyone with information about the collision – please come forward to assist this investigation but, more importantly, to provide answers to the victim’s family who are grieving the tragic loss of a loved one.”
