1) Feel like an Olympian
Run in the footsteps of Mo Farah, Usain Bolt and Jess-Ennis Hill and have your Golden Moment crossing the same finish line as London 2012 legends, just three weeks out from the Rio 2016 Games. The Great Newham London Run is the only chance to run on the track in the former Olympic Stadium.
2) Run with the kids
The Great Newham London Family Run is gentle 2km run into the stadium for children aged 5-18 and accompanying adults. The 1pm start means parents can run the 10km in the morning, have a rest, then join the kids for a family Golden Moment crossing the finish line.
3) Bring your own fan club
Every runner in the 10km and Family Run can bring two spectators to watch from the stadium stands so you have your own fan club ready to cheer you across the famous finish line.
4) Take a London 2012 tour
The Great Newham London Run is a unique tour of the sites of the London 2012 heroics and legacy of the Games. Starting beneath the ArcelorMittal Orbit, designed by Anish Kapoor, runners loop around the wave-shaped Aquatics Centre, where Tom
Daley took a diving medal in dramatic fashion and Michael Phelps ruled the pool.
Passing the Copper Box and then former Media Centre, now a university and business centre, runners will cross the new lush parklands and lap the new road cycling circuit around the Velodromebefore heading to the stadium, passing by the former Athletes’ Village.
5) Beat Premier League and top international footballers
Runners on the Great Newham London Run will be cheered into the former Olympic stadium before Premier League footballers and other top internationals take to the pitch for the first time a few weeks later. West Ham will play their first game in their new home against Juventus on 7th August.
6) Add to your silverware
All runners will receive a medal when they finish on the Stadium track and an accurate chip-timed record of their race, a performance t-shirt and the chance to do the MoBot or own personal celebration when they cross the greatest finish line in the world.
7) Run with a bunny
The official pacemakers helping you “’unlock the power within” will be dressed as “running bunnies”, in the style of the famous pink mascot of Duracell, which is officially powering the Great Run Series.
8) Enjoy the Stadium show
Food, refreshment, music and entertainment will be available in the former Olympic stadium for runners and spectators.
9) Refuel nearby
Enjoy one of the many discounts being offered to Great Runners on the day including at a number of restaurants in Westfield Stratford City including Strada, The Real Greek, Pot Belly and the Rhythm Kitchen.
The Breakfast Club in Hackney Wick is rewarding every medal holder who eats with them a free beer for a week after the run.
10) Win a trip to Ethiopia
The first running club team to finish the Great Newham London Run will win £500 for their club, 15 entries to next year’s run and entry into the prize draw for a trip of a lifetime to take part in the Great Ethiopian Run.
The winning running club team will also meet legendary distance runner, Haile Gebrselassie. Second and third place teams also win entries to next year’s race.
