IT IS A YEAR since Steven Brown was found, dying from a stab wound, in a Hackney street. Now his daughter has added her voice to a police appeal for someone to come forward and help them find whoever killed him.
The murder took place at around 5.30pm on Wednesday, 17th April, as Detective Chief Inspector Paul Considine explained. “Steven was attacked by a small group of people in Cowper Road during which he was stabbed,” he said. “Bravely, Steven managed to pick himself up off the ground and stagger to Matthias Road where he eventually succumbed to his injuries. I believe Steven may have known the perpetrators and the motive for the assault was over some dispute between them.
“The attack took place on a residential street in the early evening, when many people would still have been out and about. I am convinced that there will be members of the community who know who is responsible for this horrific act, that has left Steven’s family devastated. They cannot begin to recover from the grieving process until they see justice served.
“My team have made numerous arrests in relation to this enquiry. Some of those individuals very much remain under investigation but I need the public’s help.
“Perhaps you know something and are concerned about telling us what you know or you might be someone that would not usually engage with police. I want you to know that any information you have will be treated in the strictest confidence. Alternatively you can make use of anonymous methods like the independent charity Crimestoppers – however you choose to make contact with us, what matters most is that you tell us what you know.”
Steven Brown’s 18-year-old daughter, Shenell, added her voice to the appeal for help from the public. She said, “I really miss my dad, I still can’t believe that he is gone. Somebody out there knows who did this to him. People in the community talk but they need to talk to the police so that they can arrest those responsible for killing my dad. I miss him so much, it’s unfair that the people who did this to him think they have got away with it.”
•The charity Crimestoppers has offered to pay a £10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for this murder.
•Anyone who has information is asked to contact the Specialist Crime Command via the incident room on 020-8345 3865. Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800-555 111 and give information anonymously. Callers should quote the reference Operation Ringgold.
