THE BODY OF an eighth victim of the London Bridge terror attack was found in the river Thames on Tuesday evening, 6th June. The body was retrieved from the river by specialist officers from the Marine Police Unit from a location near Limehouse – some four miles downstream from London Bridge.
The deceased man has not yet been formally identified. However, police have informed the relatives of Xavier Thomas of their find. Thomas, 45, was a French national who had not been seen since the London Bridge incident and who was believed to be in the vicinity of the attack. It is thought that Mr Thomas may have been hit by the attackers’ van and knocked off the bridge and into the Thames.
Large areas of London Bridge and Borough Market have now been re-opened to the public, but a small area remains cordoned off. There are reports that the first people to return to the area, within minutes, were traffic wardens, who set about putting parking tickets on vehicles which had been abandoned during the attack and have since been stuck in the cordoned off area. Transport for London has issued an apology for its insensitive handling of the matter and has promised to void the tickets.
Officers from the Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command, supported by officers from the Territorial Support Group, carried out a rain on a property in East London in the early hours of this morning (7th June). They searched the property and arrested a 30 year old man on suspicion of offences under the Terrorism Act 2006.
