TWO shootings have taken place in or near St James’s Station, Chingford, E17 in the last three weeks – and police are appealing for witnesses and members of the public with information to come forward and help solve the crimes.
•The first incident occurred on Friday, 13th July. At around 1.30pm a man was shot in the leg in St James Street and headed into the station. The London Ambulance Service was called and took him to a East London hospital. He was discharged after being treated.
•The second incident took place on the evening of Tuesday, 31st July. Reports came in to the police at around 10p that a man had been shot in the street outside the station, but had managed to make his way into the station, where he was suffering from gunshot injuries. He was taken to an East London hospital by ambulance and received treatment for injuries which were fortunately not life-threatening.
Police are stressing that they do not know whether the incidents are linked – but, either way, they want to clear up these crimes.
Detective Inspector Gemma Alger, from the Metropolitan Police Trident and Area Crime Command, said, “There have been two very similar incidents in a short space of time and we are making enquiries about a possible link between them. This is a busy area and we are hopeful there are witnesses to what happened. If you heard or saw anything suspicious please contact us.”
•Anyone who can help the police with their investigations into these shootings is asked to call 101, quoting the reference CAD 3967/1Aug.
