Team Orange get the Ealing Feeling

Emdad Rahman

TEAM ORANGE, on behalf of the UK charity Penny Appeal, completed the Ealing Half Marathon for charity. The run at Lammas Park, now recognised as West London’s biggest running event, has three times been voted the UK’s best half marathon.

The idea of bringing a half marathon to the London Borough of Ealing was first discussed in 2011 by a group of friends and runners training with Ealing Eagles Running Club. The hope was that the event would inspire people in the borough and beyond to take up running – as well as inviting runners and their supporters to Ealing for the weekend.

The team this year included Haroon Mota, fundraising manager for the humanitarian charity Penny Appeal, and East Londoners Jog on Hijabi (Lynne Northcott), Abdal Ahmed, Saima Zeb and myself. The whole team completed the route in under two hours 30 minutes.

Speaking on behalf of Team Orange, Haroon Mota said, “Since 2016 I’ve been fundraising towards this project through our ‘Half Marathons 4 Homes’ scheme, encouraging people to run with Penny Appeal, giving runners the opportunity to fundraise towards one of ten state of the art homes in an orphan complex in Sohawa, Pakistan.

“We still have several upcoming events that you can sign up to and help contribute towards this fantastic initiative. Whether you want to walk, jog or run with #TeamOrange, or if you simply wish to donate, please get in touch.”
