Children hurt in shocking stabbing

THREE PEOPLE were injured yesterday, Friday, 25th October, in First Avenue, Dagenham. One victim was a woman who is thought to be in her 30s. Two children were also hurt: a girl and a boy who are thought to be agend eight and two respectively.

The emergency services were alerted to the incident just after 5.30pm. the Police, the London Ambulance Service and the Air Ambulance attended the scene. All three victims were taken to hospital for treatment. It is believed that the three stayed in hospital overnight – but fortunately none of the injuries are believed to be life threatening.

A man who is in his 40s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. After the arrest he became unwell and was taken to hospital for assessment. He was soon discharged into police custody.

Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford, responsible for policing in Barking and Dagenham, said, This is a truly shocking attack and I want to thank local residents for their assistance and patience while we deal with this incident. At this early stage, we believe those involved were known to each other and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.
A crime scene will remain in place for some time while our officers carry out vital work and you will see an increased policing presence in the area over the coming days. If you have any concerns or information that could assist police then please speak to an officer or call police on 101.”
