Get ready for the Mayor’s Football Cup

ONE OF the most popular football competitions in Tower Hamlets is taking place over the weekends of 19th/20th and 26th/27th September 2026. It’s an extravaganza of exciting football playing – and a little dose of competition.

It’s a little hard to track down the details, but we believe that matches will be played on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th September 2026 at the Victoria Park Winter League pitches and the finals will be played on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th September 2026 at Mile End Stadium.

The post on the Council’s X page advertising the Cup leads to a general page. Follow the link to “tournament rules”, and you will see more detailed information about the games. This page includes a section about “discipline” which states, “If a player receives a yellow card, he will be liable for a fine from County FA.” This is a strange statement, given that there are women and girls’ slots in the tournament.

Anyway, let’s not dwell on the bureaucracy. We know that players all over the borough are looking forward to a great weekend – or two. Why not go along and cheer them on?
