FORMER COUNCILLOR Abjol Miah has issued the following statement to explain why he is joining the Liberal Democrat Party.
After consulting community members, supporters and family members I have, for the first time, decided to move on from fractious independents to a mainstream political party, Liberal Democrats Party.
Labour has traditionally been the choice of vast majority of British Muslims, particular the British Bangladeshi Community.
Two years on from the Brexit referendum, Labour may no longer be the main choice as the political landscape has changed.
Unlike other parties, the Liberal Democrats are clear on their policy on Brexit, which is a plus point for me!
I was extremely pleased that the Government supported the Liberal Democrats in parliament with their motion to introduce a ban on up-skirting.
And there are many more other great policies that I will highlight soon.
I am wholeheartedly grateful to the Liberal Democrats for recognising my qualities, abilities as a community leader, my political contributions as an ex-elected councillor, and for accepting my membership into the party. This clearly is a privilege that I very much value and will honour with my commitment to further the work of the party.
I am grateful to the Tower Hamlets Liberal Democrats branch and its leadership for the warm welcome.
It’s time to make a big change in Tower Hamlets and I’m going to help make that change for the better – so watch this space!
To all my friends, family members, supporters, voters and well-wishers: it’s time to break the tradition and join the Liberal Democrats Party and contribute to the wider society.
Join me and LibDems to put the brakes on the Brexit – one of many campaigns.
Abjol Miah
