WITH THE ARRIVAL of summer, Beanibazar and Dakshin Surma went head to head at Stratford Drapers in a benefit game for the Beanibazar Cancer Hospital – an entertaining Greater Sylhet friendly.
Forid Ahmed and Aktar Hussain stayed true to form and sent out an attacking formation with plenty of youth and energy designed to ensure an open, exciting and expansive game.
Beanibazar scored first, after a precision ball from Hamid Yusuf was pinged to the right wing for Imdaad Ul Haque to advance powerfully and zip the ball in for captain Abdul Wahid to score the opener.
A deep attacking run from Abdal Ahmed saw an exchange with Wahid which led to Atiqur Rahman nipping in to score a second – before Azmal Hussain pulled a goal back for Surma.
A long punt from Zahid Rahman, who was making his debut in the Beanibazar goal, was latched onto by Imdaad, who supplied his namesake Emdad Rahman to score a third before half time.
After the break Stepney legend Forid Ahmed and Aktar Hussain rolled back the years as a quick one two saw Hussain thread a defence-splitting pass, from which Ahmed made no mistake.
It was the wake up call Beanibazar needed, and with joint and assistant managers Saim Hussain and Afazul Hoque instructing the team to attack the floodgates opened, with Atiq scoring his second. A pile driver from Amin Chowdhury Shadu hit Emdad in the face but fell nicely for Atiq to complete his hat trick.
A rangy run from Hamid led to Wahid teeing up Emdad, who prodded home his second with Atiq steaming in. The favour was returned with the right back scoring his fourth, after which Imdaad wrapped up proceedings with a long range drive two minutes before time, with an assist from Shadu.
M. Shab Uddin, CEO and Managing Director of Beanibazar Cancer Hospital, said, “Thank you everyone for your energy and enthusiasm tonight. It’s really uplifting to see the passion and goodwill of the greater community in helping our cause. We are grateful for the tremendous support shown.”
Beanibazar Sporting Club President Mesba Ahmed added, “We have joint managers this year in Emdad and Saim as well as Hamid and Afazul assisting. The best thing is we are using football to support a tremendous charitable cause. Well done everybody and special thanks to Dakshin Surma for their presence, spirit and support.”
Guests on the night included Jagannathpur Chairman Bokul Hussain, Greater Sylhet District Cup representative, and Beanibazar Board member Sorwar Alam, Mamun Uddin and Helal Uddin.
