Players, personalities and community leaders will take to the football pitch as Beanibazar Sporting Club (BSCUK) gets ready to play a charity exhibition game to raise funds for Beanibazar Cancer Hospital (BBCH). The teams will be comprised of the BSCUK squad member playing alongside members of BBCH.
After meeting with team managers Fokrul Islam and Forhad Hussain Tipu, BSCUK Chair Mesba Ahmed confirmed details of the game and said, “We are proud of our partnership with Beanibazar Cancer Hospital. This is the legacy of Sonali Othith and the Greater Sylhet Cup. It’s great that we are using the positive energy generated to fulfil our community responsibilities to such great effect.”
Beanibazar Cancer Hospital CEO M. Shab Uddin added, “We have a vital cause and we can ease and bring comfort to those afflicted with the support of our well wishers. I applaud and welcome the efforts of Beanibazar Sporting Club UK. This partnership will inspire others to work collectively for the greater good.”
There are currently over one million people living with cancer in Bangladesh – and this number is growing, with an estimated 200,000 new cancer patients each year. Sadly, there’s very little specialist cancer care. Outside the capital city, there just isn’t any specialist help, and only 15,000 patients receive proper medical treatment each year. That means that over 98% of cancer patients in Bangladesh aren’t receiving the treatment they need.
With the right medical help, cancer doesn’t have to be a death sentence. Those who can afford it travel to other countries to buy their treatment and care. Those who can’t afford to do this are left to suffer and die.
The Beanibazar Cancer Hospital is a charity based in the UK that aims to create awareness and provide medical treatment for disadvantaged cancer patients in Bangladesh. In particular, BBCH aim to:
•erect and maintain a fully resourced hospital in the greater area of Beani Bazar, Sylhet, Bangladesh to prevent, diagnose and treat many forms of cancer;
•raise public awareness of a country without adequate treatment for a growing problem;
•provide information relating to healthcare and cancer, promoting good health and informed lifestyles.
BBCH intends to serve not only Sylhet and North East Bangladesh, but also Assam and North East India. The fundraising game will take place at the end of September.
