Breaking news: Berlin bomb blast kills driver

Reports are coming in of an explosion taking place in the German capital, Berlin. Early reports from police say that the car was driving along a street in the wealthy Charlottenburg district of Berlin when it exploded. The force of the blast threw the vehicle into the air and killing the driver. Damage to the car was in the middle and underneath, suggesting that the device was not being carried in the boot.

Residents in the immediate vicinity of the blast have been told to stay indoors. They have been advised to close windows and curtains and to stay in rooms which do not overlook the street.

Police are checking the car and surrounding area in case there is a second device.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the car bomb, but initial speculation is that the car was being driven to a target when it exploded prematurely.
