Catwalk offers hope to women in Bangladesh

Fashion designer Rima Tadmory has joined forces with charity Islamic Relief to launch “A Tale of Two Tailors”, a fashion show that aims to provide a brighter future for women in Bangladesh.  This women-only event will take place at Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Rima’s home city of Birmingham on 24th September. It will reflect Rima’s journey to Bangladesh and convey the spirit of the women she met there. On show will be beautifully hand crafted wedding dresses and couture day wear.

Rima was inspired by a visit to Islamic Relief projects in Bangladesh earlier this year. During the visit, she met women in Rangpur who have started their own sewing business. Their sewing machines and other  materials have been obtained thanks to a local microfinance project, which has also funded training for the women. Rima hopes that her catwalk show will raise more funds so that the project can help more women to start businesses.

“The work Islamic Relief is doing in Bangladesh is truly amazing,” said Rima. “The lives of the women benefitting from the microfinance project have been completely transformed, and I’d be delighted if this fashion show raises enough funds to help improve the lives of more women.”

As Rima and Islamic Relief launched the fashion show, they were joined by lifestyle and fashion blogger Habiba Da Silva, designer and stylist Nabiila Bee, make-up artist Sadia Hussain, hair stylist Sofia Qayyum and Rumana from The Great British Sewing Bee.

“Having learned more about the way in which this fashion show will enable Islamic Relief to help women have a better future, I’m so happy to be able to support A Tale of Two Tailors,” said Habiba Da Silva.
