Barking & Dagenham-based Scintilla CC have won the CADFA Cup 2015. In an energy packed tournament, Scintilla found themselves facing partner club Stepney CC in the final. Stepney were playing in their first ever tournament and were grandly applauded for their achievements.
Scintilla captain Ashfaqur Rahaman Nobel said: “We are so proud to have competed today. It was surreal playing Stepney – our partner club.” Club captain Ahmed Choudhury added: “The boys were in no charitable mood when it came to on-field matters. The celebrations show how much this means to us. Thank you to CADFA for arranging a superb tournament.”
Losing Stepney captain Ashraful Islam was buoyant in defeat: “It was inspiring to see so many people from different backgrounds and communities from across London, all competing and helping the cause.”
Event organiser Shahid Malji said: “It was fantastic to see so many people turn up for our CADFA fundraiser to help raise money for our child and youth visit from Palestine in June 2015. Congratulations to the winners Scintilla and runners up Stepney who also donated some of their prize money back to the charity – a great gesture indeed. We look forward to working with them on our June visit by Palestinian guests and hope that everyone involved can also come along to any event which is organised for the local community to welcome our guests from Palestine.”
The Camden Abu Dis Friendship Association (CADFA) bring Palestinians over to the UK on twinning visits. In June CADFA are bringing 12 teenagers to the UK, and the funds raised from the CADFA Cup will help pay towards the cost of the trip.
