Construction starts on gigantic new sculpture in the Olympic Park

The ‘RUN’ installation has been created by internationally-renowned artist Monica Bonvicini.

The artwork is made up of three ninemetre-tall letters forming the word RUN in capital letters, each weighing ten
tonnes.

It will be largest standalone sculpture on the Park and will be located outside the Copper Box. The letters are made from steel and reflective glass to create a mirror effect during the day. LED lighting inside the sculpture will reflect off a series of internal curved mirrors to illuminate the artwork during the dark.

It will take around six weeks to fit all the components to the letters, including the glass and 305m of energy efficient LED lighting.

Dennis Hone, ODA Chief Executive, said: ‘The RUN sculpture will not only become an attraction for the Olympic Park during the Games, but also for years to come as a focal point for the many thousands of visitors who will come when
the Park is transformed after the Games.’
