East London News writer Emdad Rahman has been rewarded for his voluntary work with recognition from the Barking & Dagenham Volunteer Bureau as part of The Big Celebration – Volunteers’ Week 2016. Volunteers’ Week is an annual celebration of the fantastic contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK – and takes place from 1st-12th June 2016.
Emdad and several other volunteers were recognised by Mayor Eileen Keller and Cllr Laila Butt in a celebratory event at Starting Point in Barking. Emdad said, “I’m very pleased. Recognition from your own is always special. I’m humbled to be among so many amazing people. Special thanks go to Lynne Hopkins and Joan Brandon who trained me as a London Ambassador for London 2012 and as an elderly befriender and local volunteer.”
“We are celebrating volunteers and I’m very pleased to be here today,” said Barking & Dagenham Mayor Eileen Keller. Councillor Laila Butt added, “Volunteers are priceless and the service they provide is invaluable. They are the backbone of our community and I’m very pleased that we are recognising our volunteers here today.”
