Scintilla Cricket Club’s former captain Faris Almas Lee, who led the Essex outfit to the Essex County Cricket League Premier Division Championship, was on the winning side as Melayu Malaysia beat opponents Bright Sports by 110 runs.
In the 50-over showdown, Melayu Malaysia batted first and reached 207-9. Top scorers were Shafiq Sharif (47), Nazril A. Rahman Kekal (40), Syazrul Ezat Idrus Kekal (33), Fikri Makram Rosdi (18), Faris Almas-Lee (13) and Anwar Arudin (10).
The pick of the Bright Sport bowlers were Syazrul Ezat Idrus (4-10), Faruq Hakimin Azmi (2-13) and Faiz Ahmad Nasir (2-15).
Bright Sports were all dismissed for 97 (22.3 overs). The top scorers were SM Raihan Sharif (24), Injamamul Hoque (22) and Md. Abul Hashem (12). Melayu Malaysia bowlers SM Raihan Sharif took 2-25 and Md. Nahidul Islam 2-41.
Commenting on the win, Faris Almas Lee said: “It’s a great win and not as easy as it looks in print. Our opponents were a tough nut to crack but our collective unity saw us through. We are very pleased.”
