FC BRICK LANE CLINCH ILFL LEAGUE TITLE

FC Brick Lane, a project of Osmani Trust have clinched the ILFL 1st Division league title with a 2-0 win against title rivals Abohani. The team had already achieved promotion to the premier division a few weeks ago when they recorded a resounding 10-0 win over SYA. It has been a very successful season for the FC Brick Lane team, who managed by Abdul Hasnath and Manik Miah have gone on to fulfil the promise that the squad had been showing over the last few years. The team missed out on promotion last year to the premier division, after hitting a slump in the last few games of the season but this time round, the team learning from their previous campaign have kept up their consistency level throughout the season.

FC Brick Lane started the season off with a hard fought, end to end match with Westferry, which ended in a 5-4 win and the team continued the rich vein of form, winning the next 6 games beating Bromley by Bow, Samba, SYA, Globe Town Aasha, West Ham SC and Burdett. The team had gone unbeaten through a large part of the season but came unstuck with then title rivals Abohani, but that only proved to be a minor setback because the team continued on another winning run by taking maximum points from the next four games. That winning run came to an end against West Ham SC, a game in which FC Brick Lane where leading by 3 goals at half time but in an amazing turn of events the team throw away a 3 goal lead and had to be content with only a draw. The result now meant FC Brick Lane had to either win or draw against 2nd place Abohani in the next game to secure the league title, and the team made sure of the championship with a fine display beating Abohani by 2-0.

With 15 games played this season, FC Brick Lane have notched up 12 wins, lost 2 games and drew one, scoring a total of 52 goals. Top scorer Nozmul Miah has been in sensational form this season, the striker scoring 16 goals in 10 games hitting 3 hat-tricks on the way. The FC Brick Lane squad is unique in the fact that most of the players in the team come from the Brick Lane area, and thus the success of the team has been greatly appreciated and been a real joy to the community and people in Brick Lane. And with the average age of the squad being 24 the future is very promising and certainly seems bright for everyone connected and part of FC Brick Lane.

On the club securing the league title and promotion to the ‘ILFL Premier Division’ manager Abdul Hasnath commented ‘The team have been hungry to test themselves in the top division for a long time now, and I believe with the commitment, enthusiasm and quality they have shown this season, the players will be ready to challenge in the top division’
