GCSE celebrations at London Enterprise Academy

CELEBRATIONS WERE the order of the day at the London Enterprise Academy (LEA) as the school received news of an excellent set of GCSE results – a huge improvement on last year.

LEA pupils performed significantly better than the national average in the key subjects of English, maths and science with an average of Grades 7s – equivalent to the old Grade “A” in biology, chemistry and physics.

I am really proud of the work that our staff have done with the students and the dedication of our students themselves. This group of students worked on through some very challenging times over the last five years, including the Covid lockdowns and teacher strikes.

What parents wanted from me and my staff was to ensure that their children are safe, develop good manners and etiquette and leave with good GCSE results so that they can have a bright future in this great city of London. I am so pleased that we are delivering on all fronts.

There was a higher education bonus this year as, on its tenth anniversary, LEA’s first cohort of universitystudents graduated – many from the best universities in the country. Many of this year’s pupils will continue their education journey – in local colleges and sixth form centres as well as in prestigious academic sixth forms in Newham (NCS, LAE and Brampton) and Islington (ICS).

The school has suffered unfair treatment from Ofsted, which conducted ten inspections between 2017 and 2022. Now everyone is looking forward to Ofsted visiting soon and grading the school fairly. All the school’s Key Performance Indicators are typical of the level reached by schools graded “Good” and “Outstanding” and which achieve good GCSE results, excellent attendance records and a very low rate of exclusions.

LEA students take more GCSEs than many other local schools, not least becaue LEA encourages students to take a second and third language GCSE (such as Arabic, Bangla, French, Italian, Portuguese, Turkish and Russian).
