Scintilla Cricket Clubs second team is promoted!

Scintilla Cricket Club celebrated another momentous season as the Barking & Dagenham outfits second team clinched promotion to the first division of the Essex County Cricket League.

At Hainault Recreation Park Barking Cricket Club won the toss and decided to bat first. They were bowled out for 119. For the visitors Toufik took 4/12 and Syed Iftekhar 1/12. It was the last game for the ever consistent Walid Ahmed who added 4/25. Throughout the campaign Ahmed has been a star performer with bat and ball. He will now relocate to Bournemouth, where he will be pursuing his university studies. Scintilla finished quickly to ease to a six wicket victory as Mobasher Ahmed crashed 64.

Scintilla captain Shaha Riadh said: “This is a very proud day for the team. From day one we have endeavoured to play positive cricket and our consistency throughout the season has led to great success. We look forward to playing in the first division next year. Thank you to our sponsor, management and our well wishers for such great support throughout the season.”

Scintilla seniors recorded 420/5 as the top order wreaked havoc against their opponents Hawks cricket Club during the penultimate game of the season. Zishan top scored with 93, whilst Mahfuz struck 88. Ashraful Islam and Ishaq Shawn scored 65 runs each as Ashfaqur Rahaman added 36. Hawks were bowled out 157/10 from 34 overs with Ryan scoring 42, and Sweeney 33. Ashfaqur Rahaman with 3/20 and Ishaq Shawn 2/17 were the pick of the bowlers as Scintilla cruised to a 263 run victory.

Captain Ayaz Karim said: “We ended the season strongly and will build on the positives gained in preparation for the future. We have learnt a lot and our experiences have made us a stronger unit.”

Club captain Ahmed Choudhury said: “Promotion for the second XI is another historic milestone for this club and we are delighted with the performance of both teams. Congratulations and thank you to everyone who contributed.”

Club chairman Muhammad Rahman concluded: “We are very proud of both teams. We wish Walid Ahmed the very best and hope he returns one day to wear the shirt again. It’s been a memorable year and we have also delivered a successful cricket summer camp for young people in the borough. Thank you to Techshed Ltd, my colleagues and Barking & Dagenham Council for all the support.”
