Gun suspects off the streets – then back out again

THREE MEN were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life last month – and after questioning all three were released on bail until 15th June. The arrests were made as the police executed warrants in early morning raids.

The arrests came after a seven month investigation by the Metropolitan Police Trident and Area Crime Command, prompted by a shooting at commercial premises at the junction of Rigg Approach and Lea Bridge Road in Leyton in October last year.

Police attended the incident and found a man, 41, with gunshot wounds to the leg and a woman in her 20s with a gunshot wound to the chest. Fortunately, both victims were discharged from hospital after receiving medical treatment.

The arrested suspects were:
(a) a 31-year-old man arrested in Northumberland Road, E17;
(b) a 31-year-old man arrested in Adams Road, N17;
(c) a 19-year-old arrested in Theobald Road, E17.

Detective Sergeant Leigh-Ann Barthram from the Trident Area and Crime Command said, “These warrants come following a horrendous incident and it is pure luck that there were no further victims or any fatalities. The people responsible for this incident are dangerous individuals that have no regard for the safety of others, clearly shown by the level of violence used. The Met is committed to taking violent individuals off of the streets of London to make a safer city for all. We are still appealing for information about this incident.”
