Hackney killing leads to long jail term

A MAN CONVICTED of manslaughter has been jailed for 15 years, with an order that he serve a further three years on licence. The sentencing came a year after the victim died from stab wounds.

The killer – Kieron Brown, 27, of Mabley Street, E9 – was convicted last month at the end of a trial at Harrow Crown Court. He returned to the Court at the end of last month for sentencing.

The emergency services were called out just after 2pm on 5th December 2019, after reports came in that there had been a stabbing in Clarence Mews, E5. The Metropolitan Police, London Ambulance Service and the Air Ambulance attended the scene. Exauce Ngimbi, 22, was found there, having been stabbed.  Medics battled to save him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene just after 2.30pm. A post mortem shortly afterwards confirmed that he had been stabbed eight times – with stab wounds to his heart and aorta proving fatal.

Initially the police launched a murder investigation.  Kieron Brown was charged just two days after the killing – with murder and with possession of a bladed article.  However, at the recent trial Brown was convicted of manslaughter, as well as possession of a bladed article.  The Court was told that the killer and his victim were known to each other and had been involved in a fight the day before the killing – the reasons for which are not known.

After the conviction, Detective Inspector Rita Tierney said, “This is another incredibly sad case where a young person has lost their life on a London street due to knife crime. Our team has worked hard to bring Exauce’s killer to justice and I hope it gives his family some degree of comfort. Regardless, the result will not bring Exauce back and they will always have to live with their grief.”

After the sentencing, DI Tierney commented further, saying, “While there was no evidence that Brown intended to commit murder, the carrying of a knife equipped him to inflict serious injuries that resulted in manslaughter. This has been a harrowing and complex case and I hope that the efforts of my officers in compiling a strong case bring Exauce’s family a measure of comfort now that his killer has been jailed. Our thoughts are with them as they continue to grieve.”
